About

Life’s an adventure, right?  From Jan. 2015 thru June 2016 I was fulfilling a lifelong dream of serving in the Peace Corps.  I had the pleasure and good fortune to serve in rural Thailand.  Now I’m back in the US.  Keep reading and exploring and take this trip with me.

So glad to see that you had some time to blog. It’s rich all over again. I am amazed by the bright colors and deep ritual lives of your hosts, as well as the sensitivity of your mentor. It seems so much of a reorientation to living and being. This will surely change you and only for the better.

Hi Rich, Wonderful to hear that you made it, and it seems that your host family is taking good care of you, nurturing and intuitive to your needs. A good introduction to your whole experience. Lovely! Will you send an address to which I can send a little remembrance for Wednesdays here where it’s between 0 and 10 degrees!?! Take good care. Jane

    Rich,
Some great writing. I laughed out loud. I mean it. Quite an adventure and I was sucked right in to your experiences. I hopefully life is not quite as you describe. I cant imagine you scaring children to the other side of the street, unless they do it as a game. I’m in the process of reading The Path Between the Seas. It’s good but it has yet to grip me. What came before the American canal is amazing, complex, a bit sad and so simplified by grade school. I’m glad I’m reading it. Men’s Lives was a book I read many, many years ago when it was new. Coming from a long line of Long Islanders I could relate even if my family didn’t fish. Excellent writing as I recall. A book I treasure. I’m curious what you thought of it.
